Our latest training evening was on Thursday 14th July 2022, there were to be 4 pupils and 4 tutors, however one of the pupils had to cancel and one of the tutors came down with Covid, this still left 3 and 3 and it was too late to organise any replacement pupils or tutors. We decided to go with what we have, the 3 tutors arrived as arranged but only 2 of the pupils turned up, John Ruickbie’s pupil failed to turn up, that left us with Errol Levings tutoring Liam Comfort, and me (Alec Mutch) tutoring Gareth Jones.

Our meeting this week on Thursday 7th July 2022 is all about finishing methods and materials. This meeting has been arranged by Errol Levings and there will be 3 members taking part, it was originally intended to have 4 members doing the presentations but John Ruickbie had to call off, I will be taking on John’s contribution about the use of Oils as a finish in addition to my own contribution.

Our meeting on the 23rd June 2022 was another Showtime meeting, organised by David Hobson and compered by myself, we had entries from 12 members and a total of over 30 individual items shown. The standard of the entries was as usual very good, there were several entries from members who had very recently joined our club, some of the trainee turners also exhibited, a positive step for them as they were so very new to woodturning.

Our latest training evening was on the 16th June 2022, organised by Nick Simpson our training manager, he had arranged for all 5 lathes to be in operation but unfortunately one of the pupils failed to show, all 5 tutors were present but it did leave David Hobson at a loose end, however he volunteered to stay and do some observation along with taking a few pictures for this post.

Our club meeting on Thursday 9th June 2022 was organised by Dave Line, Dave’s theme for the meeting was making wooden bowls, he had all 5 lathes in operation all making a bowl of one kind or another.

Our meeting this week, Thursday 9th June 2022 is being managed by Dave Line, Dave’s theme for the meeting is all about making wooden bowls, all 5 lathes will be in operation, Dave has not specified exactly what type of bowl all the turners will be making suffice to say they will all be working on some sort of bowl.

Our latest training meeting took place on the 2nd June 2022, we were to have all 5 lathes working with 5 pupils and 5 tutors, however one of the pupils had to call off at short notice, this meant that one of the tutors would no longer be required, that tutor was our training manager Nick Simpson. He did attend as usual and stayed to do the officiating and be an observer for the meeting.

Our meeting on Thursday 26th May was about making wooden boxes, this meeting was organised by Alan Geddes. Alan had all 5 lathes in operation with a turner on each, the turners whilst all making boxes were all working in their own way and producing a variety of wooden boxes.
