Our next meeting, 15-02-2024 organized by Nick Simpson.

Before we get into the details of this meeting I would like to invite those of you who would be interested in taking up woodturning as a hobby to contact us and arrange for a free visit to see exactly what the club is all about. We are on the lookout for a few new members to join the club, you can be male or female, aged over 12 years with an interest in making things on a lathe, having a lathe at this point is not a requirement. This meeting replaces the published meeting after being cancelled on the 18th January 2024 due to heavy snow.

Our next meeting, 18-01-2024 organized by Nick Simpson.

Start time 6.45pm.

Our meeting on Thursday 18th January 2024 has been organized by Nick Simpson, Nick’s theme for the meeting is for all 5 lathes to be manned and making various styles of wooden Trinket Boxes.

I’m sure we will see a few different approaches on how to make these boxes, Nick has also suggested the boxes could be decorated or made from various different woods, laminated or embellished in some way.

Report on our meeting 04-01-2024, Organized by Geoff Potter.

Our meeting on Thursday 4th January 2024 was organized by Geoff Potter, Geoff’s theme for the evening was making bowls and platters. Geoff had arranged for 4 turners plus himself to man all the club lathes, however one of the turners was a no show so the meeting went ahead with 4 turners.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 4th January 2024, it’s being organized by Geoff Potter and Geoff’s theme for this meeting is making Bowls, Shallow Bowls and Platters. Geoff has enlisted the help of 4 more turners plus himself to man all the lathes.

Report on our last meeting of the year on the 14th December 2023.

Our last meeting of the year on the 14th December 2023 was a triple purpose meeting, hosting both the Annual Christmas Competition and our traditional bumper raffle draw. It was also at this meeting that the winners of the Shield Competitions held throughout the year was to be announced.

Report on our meeting 07-12-2023, Organized by Alan Smith.

Our meeting on Thursday 7th December 2023 was organized by Alan Smith, Alan’s theme for the meeting was using green wood (I.E. un-seasoned wood ). He had arranged for all 5 of the club lathes to be in use, with 4 club members plus himself doing the demonstrating.

Our meeting on Thursday 7th December has been organized by Alan Smith, Alan’s theme for this meeting is working with green wood. He has arranged for all 5 of the club lathes to be manned, he will be on one lathe with 4 more turners working the other lathes.

Our meeting on Thursday 23rd November 2023 was organized by Susan Drew, Susan’s theme for the meeting was making wooden toys, she had arranged for there to be 4 more turners plus herself on all 5 of the club’s lathes.

Report on our 3rd Shield Competition for 2023. Organized by Nick Simpson.

Our meeting on Thursday 9th November 2023 was our 3rd Shield Competition for 2023, it was originally organized by Nick Simpson, however due to unforeseen circumstances Nick had to miss the meeting, he did delegate the responsibilities to David Hobson, who in turn was assisted by Susan Drew and Dave Hutcheson.
