Report on our meeting 27-04-2023, Pen Making by Dave Line.

Our meeting this week was all about Making Pens on the lathe, it was organized by Dave Line, Dave had all 5 lathes in operation with himself and 4 other turners making pens in various materials, most were being made from wood but there were a couple using Acrylics, all were using various pen kits that are readily available on the market.

Report on our meeting 13-04-2023. First shield Competition for 2023, and First Aid demonstration.

Our first shield Competition for 2023 was on the 13th April 2023, it was organized by Nick Simpson assisted by David Hobson. The theme for the Competition was all to do with making Wooden Eggs and Egg Cups, there were 3 categories taking part, for the Novice category they were required to make a Wooden Egg and Decorate it, for the Intermediate category they were required to make a Wooden Egg and Egg Cup also Decorated, for the Experienced category they were required to make 2 Identical Wooden Eggs with Egg Cups and Decorated.

Competition rules 2023

HWC Competitions 2023

There will be 2 types of competition each membership year – the traditional Christmas competition and 3 or 4 themed competitions leading to the award of the HWC Shields.

Competitors and classes:  The competitions are open to all members of the HWC. Members are divided into 3 classes: Novice, Intermediate and Experienced. Allocation of entry class will be made by 3 or more members of the HWC teaching and training group (TTG) at the end of the membership year. New members who join during the membership year will be allocated a class level through discussion with 3 members of the Teaching and Training Group.

Report on our meeting 30-03-2023. End grain turning by Errol Levings.

Our meeting this week on Thursday 30th March 2023 was organized by Errol Levings, his subject for this meeting was mainly End Grain Turning, he had arranged for all 5 of our lathes to be working, 3 turners were doing End Grain Turning, 1 turner was making a table leg using an offset method and 1 turner was making use of an Ash Canker to make a bowl.
