Our last meeting of the year on the 14th December 2023 was a triple purpose meeting, hosting both the Annual Christmas Competition and our traditional bumper raffle draw. It was also at this meeting that the winners of the Shield Competitions held throughout the year was to be announced.

Our meeting on Thursday 9th November 2023 was our 3rd Shield Competition for 2023, it was originally organized by Nick Simpson, however due to unforeseen circumstances Nick had to miss the meeting, he did delegate the responsibilities to David Hobson, who in turn was assisted by Susan Drew and Dave Hutcheson.

The subject matter for this Competition was to make something using an offset or multi axis mounting point or points, all 3 categories Novice, Intermediate and Experienced had the same brief and the rest was left for you to decide.

Our meeting on Thursday 25th May 2023 is our 2nd competition of the year, the subject matter is to turn something with a Multi Axis centre point. This criteria is the same for all 3 categories but you will be judged only in the category you are listed as having. It can be anything made using more than one centre, the use of specialized equipment can be adopted or home made jigs made and used, you may use between centres or use a faceplate or a combination of both, but most of all we need more of you to enter than was present at the last competition.

Our first shield Competition for 2023 was on the 13th April 2023, it was organized by Nick Simpson assisted by David Hobson. The theme for the Competition was all to do with making Wooden Eggs and Egg Cups, there were 3 categories taking part, for the Novice category they were required to make a Wooden Egg and Decorate it, for the Intermediate category they were required to make a Wooden Egg and Egg Cup also Decorated, for the Experienced category they were required to make 2 Identical Wooden Eggs with Egg Cups and Decorated.

HWC Competitions 2023
There will be 2 types of competition each membership year – the traditional Christmas competition and 3 or 4 themed competitions leading to the award of the HWC Shields.
Competitors and classes: The competitions are open to all members of the HWC. Members are divided into 3 classes: Novice, Intermediate and Experienced. Allocation of entry class will be made by 3 or more members of the HWC teaching and training group (TTG) at the end of the membership year. New members who join during the membership year will be allocated a class level through discussion with 3 members of the Teaching and Training Group.
