At a recent club meeting I showed a wall hanging made from a ceramic tile and a wooden surround, I also explained how a tile should be fitted into the wooden surround, I also brought a cut through of the surround for all to see exactly how it needed to be made in order to not break the tile after it’s been fitted.Continue reading “Fitting a tile into a wooden surround.”

Our meeting this week on Thursday 28th April 2022 is once again a Showtime meeting. The meeting is organised by Peter Lawrence but I will be doing the job of compere. These meetings are to let others see exactly what you have done recently or indeed in the past, anything that you have made is acceptable and if there is a particular reason or story behind what you have brought in so much the better, but all we really want is for you to show your work. Do not be thinking just because you may have only started woodturning fairly recently that you could not show your work, we want to see everyone’s work, so bring them along, do remember you are not limited in the number of items you bring in to be shown.Continue reading “Our meeting this week 28-04-2022, Showtime.”

Our meeting this week on Thursday 14th April was all about Natural Edged Turnings, this meeting was managed by Geoff Potter and was the first meeting to feature all 5 lathes in operation since the club re-opened in the Autumn of 2021. The turners for this meeting were, Geoff Potter, Bill Munro, Bob Chisholm, Alan Ross and Dave Line, all were making bowls, some from half a log others from a whole log and Geoff had the strangest looking piece of wood imaginable, but never the less do look at his outcome, it’s the old story of not judging a book by it’s cover, and in this case don’t judge the piece before seeing the outcome.Continue reading “Report on our meeting 14-04-2022 Natural edged turning managed by Geoff Potter.”

Our next club meeting is this Thursday 14th April 2022, it’s being managed by Geoff Potter and Geoff’s theme for the meeting is making articles with natural edge features included in the design. This may be something like a burr being used to make a bowl, or half a log even a whole log being turned into a decorative bowl, it could be making a mushroom from a branch.Continue reading “Our next club meeting 14-04-2022. The minutes from the 31st March meeting are now available here
Our meeting this week on Thursday 31st March 2022 was a demonstration by Errol Levings, Errol was demonstrating the use of some of the additional items you might need for your woodturning, these were things like Templates, Jigs and Copy devices. He showed and explained the use of various templates, also some items he had made to assist with his woodturning, there was some discussion on whether some of the items were templates or jigs, whatever you wish to call any of them was of little consequence they were all useful in their own field of use.Continue reading “Report on our meeting 31-03-2022, a demonstration by Errol Levings.”
