This well attended meeting was on the theme of making more than one identical item. The evening was led by Andy Walters of Black Isle Woodturning. Andy is a ” Production woodturner”, so has a lot of experience at making repetitive pieces.
Getting the correct body position with the lathe is crucial
START TIME 6-30PM.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday 28th November 2024. It’s being organized by Alan Smith and was originally set out with all 5 lathes in use, each of them doing their own thing, however due to bad weather the training session booked for the 21st November got cancelled.

We had another training day on Thursday 7th November 2024, organised by Nick Simpson, there were 5 pupils with 5 turners doing various stages of woodturning, also present was our safety observer for this tutorial Mark Sutton and Susan Drew who kindly agreed to take a few pictures of the proceedings.

Our latest training evening was on Thursday 24th October 2024.
The programme was arranged by Nick Simpson our training organizer, all 5 lathes were in use with 5 pupils along with 5 tutors, Nick on this occasion was to be our safety observer. The session went very well with all the pupils making headway in their turnings, we did have a couple of very small reminders in regards to safety, something that is taken very seriously at the club, it just gave us a reminder not to be complacent.

Our latest training day was on Thursday 10th October 2024, organized by our training co-ordinator Nick Simpson. There were 5 pupils along with 5 tutors and one safety observer, most were on their 2nd or 3rd training sessions apart from Lynn Holmes who was having her first lesson.

As a result of our Open Day we have a lot of new members who have joined our club, this has resulted in our Training arranger Nick Simpson starting a new programme of training to accommodate some of the new members who require some training.

Our meeting this week on Thursday 7th July 2022 was all about finishing materials and their use, the meeting was organised by Errol Levings and was to have 4 people doing presentations on different aspects of finishing. However the situation with Covid reduced this to only 2 people doing the presentations, Errol and myself. This meant that some of the presentation would now be carried forward to a meeting later in the year.
Continue reading “Report on our meeting on 07-07-2022, Finishing products and their use.”At a recent club meeting I showed a wall hanging made from a ceramic tile and a wooden surround, I also explained how a tile should be fitted into the wooden surround, I also brought a cut through of the surround for all to see exactly how it needed to be made in order to not break the tile after it’s been fitted.
