Our next meeting 06-06-2024 organized by Alan Smith.

Start time 6.45pm.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 6th June 2024 it has been organized by Alan Smith and Alan’s subject for this meeting is a Pub Style Quiz. This is the 2nd time we will have done this type of quiz, all the questions will be coming from Alan Smith, most will have a reference to wood and wood turning in some way, but not exclusively so.

As there are very few pictures from the last quiz night I have selected out a few pictures from our archives for you to see, few if any will have any bearing on the quiz but I hope you find them interesting anyway.

Here’s a good selection, some spindle work along with some bowl work and a little bit of carving in the quaich, and a Mushroom made from a Banksia Nut.

Here are some other items of interest, a 5 way candelabra, a series of turned birds and a couple of Natural edged bowls.

Here we have a twin bowl piece, made from an oblong piece of wood, not everything that comes off a lathe needs to be round, here are 2 examples of that, then there is a bowl with a penetration in one side, don’t see it as a problem, see it as a feature and leave it alone, on the bottom right, I have shown you a candle stick holder, this was made from one turning, cut into 4 pieces and then re-assembled to create the design you see.

We are hoping for a good turnout for the quiz, it was a great success last year and we are sure it will be just as enjoyable this year so please do come along.

There will be tea and coffee available for a small fee of 50p, and we will have the usual raffles on sale.

For anyone reading this that is not a member of our club, I can let you know we have vacancies at this point and time if you wish to join, we are extending a free invitation to come as our guest for one evening, anyone wishing to see what we do at our club and possibly for them to join should contact our secretary Geoff Potter. You do not need to be proficient in woodturning to join, we do have a training programme for anyone wanting to start woodturning, but you will be required to be a member first.

Dates of meetings can be found on our web pages, www.highland-woodturners.org.uk
